Clinton Ozone baseball takes second at Series

The Clinton 11-12 Dixie Youth All-Star baseball team came up just short of its championship dream at the Ozone World Series in Oxford, Ala., losing to the Alabama state tournament champion in the World Series final, 7-3, Thursday afternoon.

The game was the second on the day for Clinton, which had eliminated Tennessee by a 4-3 margin to reach the finals. In that game Landen Vo hit a three-run homer as Clinton rallied from an early 3-0 deficit. Will Stewart went the final two innings on the mound to secure the victory.

In the championship game against Alabama, Clinton trailed 2-0 before tying the game, then exchanged single runs before Alabama scored the game’s final four runs to put the game out of reach. R.T. Corley was a homer short of the cycle in the loss.

“I feel they’ve done a great job in doing what we’ve coached them to do,” Clinton head coach Matt Stewart said. “We’re pleased with what we’ve done.”
