Douglas Taylor

Douglas Taylor, age 73, of 100 Pamela Lane, Laurens, S.C., and husband of Elaine Abercrombie Taylor, passed away on August 2, 2017, at his home.

Born in Walhalla, S.C., he was a son of the late Ira and Ruby Towe Taylor.  Doug was retired from Watts Mill and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Greenwood.  He was a well-known carburetor builder and “Boss-man” at D & J Carburetors.  He built carbs for many dirt track and drag racing engines. Doug was the 2014 Track Champion at Union County Dragway at the age of 70.  He was very kind hearted and loved to help others every chance he had.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel.  A private burial will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary immediately following the memorial service on Friday.

    I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Douglas was my Loom fixer at Watts Mill. He was so kind and never seemed to be stressed about the job. He tried to help everyone of us weavers. We appreciated him being the wonderful man he was. He will be missed.
