The Laurens 9-10 Little League baseball team rallied from down 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, scoring seven runs against Greenwood-Abbeville to pick up a 10-4 victory in the final game of the district tournament at J.B. Red Owens Complex in Easley.
With the victory Laurens clinched a berth in the state tournament, scheduled to begin July 6 in Summerville. The team’s opening opponent will be announced at a later date.
Kamron Pittman hit a two-run triple in the top of the sixth, scoring Garrett Satterfield and Samuel Adams, to put Laurens ahead for keeps.
Laurens 11-12: In the first game of the district tournament, held at Laurens City Park, host Laurens got four homers – including two from Griffin Abell – to blow away Greenwood-Abbeville, 19-1, and move into Thursday’s second round against Easley. The game is slated to be played at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.
DY: Laurens Dixie Youth 13-14 baseball team fell into the consolation bracket with a 4-1 loss to Mauldin Wednesday night in Gaffney. Laurens scored its lone run of the game on a passed ball in the first that allowed Garrett Parker to score. He reached on a walk, then stole both second and third.
Laurens is slated to play Gaffney Thursday evening, and with a victory would immediately play Mauldin. If Laurens goes 2-0 Thursday, it would have a rematch with Mauldin Friday for the district title.
