Laurens 9-10 opens district with rout, falls in Game 2

The Laurens 9-10 Little League All-Star baseball team opened district tournament play Monday night with a 15-1, four-inning victory over host Easley at the J.B. Red Owens Complex.

Laurens scored 10 runs in the first inning, sending 16 batters to the plate, drawing eight walks and picking up three hits in the process.

Tournament play continued Tuesday night with Laurens taking on Wren, with the winner clinching the first spot in the state tournament. Unlike Monday’s opener, Tuesday saw Laurens on the short end of an 11-1, five-inning loss to Wren which evened the team’s mark at 1-1.

Jackson Humphries brought in the only run of the game for Laurens when he drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the third inning. Laurens left seven runners on base.

Laurens will play Greenwood in Wednesday evening’s final game, starting at 6 p.m. If Laurens wins it will advance to the state tournament. A loss would eliminate the squad from the tournament.
