Crash causes power outage in Waterloo

Power was restored by 9:20 a.m. Thursday after the crash of a box truck on U.S. 221 near Waterloo disrupted service.

The crash downed power lines and caused a power outage in the area, including at Waterloo Elementary School.

Laurens School District 55 officials said Waterloo Elementary began school without power, but Duke Energy crews had the lights on before 9:30 a.m. However, crews remained on the scene of the accident into the early afternoon Thursday.

The district had already made contingency plans for lunch and a full day of classes, if necessary, without power. The school day went on as scheduled after power was restored.

The S.C. Highway Patrol could not immediately be reached for more details.
