Dorman’s Walker named new LDHS boys’ basketball coach
The Laurens Raiders boys’ basketball program has a new head coach.
Ryan Walker, the former assistant coach with the Dorman Cavaliers, was named as the new head coach of the Laurens Raiders Monday night during a school board meeting at the Laurens District 55 office. The decision was announced after an executive session period that lasted more than a half hour and was among a number of moves approved by the board. Look to The Laurens County Advertiser Wednesday for more details on those additions.
Walker helped the Cavaliers win the Class 5A state title this past season. He beat out three other candidates – Eastside assistant Michael Fitzgerald Morrison, McCormick head coach Rico Salliewhite, and Southern Wesleyan head coach and former Laurens Raider Charlie Wimphrie.
Walker replaces Ben Sinclair as the full-time head coach. Sinclair left the position in January after an episode during a game at Greenwood in which Sinclair was ejected and confronted an official.
