Laurens police officer arrested in Abbeville
The Laurens Police Department confirmed Thursday afternoon that Officer Andrew Dean Ashley, 27, has been arrested by the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest stems from an incident that occurred in Abbeville County. Ashley, who was arrested Monday, has been charged with malicious injury to a tree or house, trespass on real property with an injury value of $2,000 or less. The misdemeanor charge carries a penalty upon conviction of a fine of $1,000, 30 days in prison or both.
The Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office asked SLED to take over the investigation because Ashley is a police officer.
According to the Laurens Police Department, Ashley has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
