LA girls outlast Holly Hill, advance to SCISA Championship Game
The Laurens Academy Crusaders girls’ basketball team is one victory away from a state championship.
Ruthie Moore scored 30 points and Taylor Campbell scored eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter (all of which came from the foul line), as the Crusaders eliminated the Holly Hill Raiders Thursday, 53-47, in the semifinal round of the SCISA Class A Tournament, held at Wilson Hall in Sumter.
The victory sends the Crusaders into the championship game against Dorchester, which eliminated Richard Winn in the other semifinal Thursday night. The championship game will be played at approximately 2:30 p.m., and will be held at the Sumter Civic Center.
Laurens Academy trailed by five points at the half, 27-22, and struggle toward the end of the half with Campbell on the bench with three fouls, but in the third quarter the Crusaders turned the game around by outscoring Holly Hill 13-6 to grab a two-point lead.
Holly Hill fought back and grabbed a 40-39 lead on a 3-pointer from Tara Bilton with less than 5 minutes left in regulation, but the Crusaders responded with a 7-0 run that put the game out of reach.
