Clinton boys advance in state tourney
The Clinton Red Devils boys’ basketball team advanced through the first round of the SCHSL Class 3A Tournament Tuesday night, getting 20 points from Jalen Carter and 18 from Kiah Young in the Red Devils’ 80-70 victory over Indian Land at Clinton High.
Clinton (19-3) advanced to Friday’s second-round match with Pendleton, which eliminated Emerald with a 72-64 victory in its first-round game.
Clinton led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter before the Warriors rallied back to within four points, but a string of three straight close-range misses left the margin untouched, allowing Clinton to expand the lead back out and eventually pull away.
Zay Hurley scored 17 points and Tymori Tribble had 16 points to aid Clinton’s cause.
