LA girls capture region tourney title

The Laurens Academy Crusaders girls’ basketball team, playing Richard Winn in the region tournament finals for the third straight year, finally turned the scoreboard in its favor Saturday afternoon at Newberry Academy.

Campbell, Moore and Reagan Williamson were all named to the all-tournament team, with Moore being named tournament MVP. Moore and Campbell were also named to the all-region team, with Campbell being named regular-season player of the year. head coach Jason Marlett was named region coach of the year.

On the boys’ side, Noah Moore was named to the all-tournament team for the Crusaders. Teammate Joshua Moore was named to the all-region team for LA, which was eliminated from the region tournament in Friday’s semifinals.
