Laurens, Clinton split doubleheader
The Clinton Red Devils got a big defensive stop on the final play of the boys’ basketball game, getting a blocked shot as time ran out to give them a 49-46 victory Friday at Laurens, in the first half of a home-and-home between the two teams.
The two schools will meet again Tuesday in Clinton.
Clinton, which led by 10 points in the first quarter, saw Laurens storm back and take as much as an seven-point lead in the third quarter, and led 46-44 late in the fourth quarter before Clinton got five free throws in the game’s final 1:56 to win the game.
Tymori Tribble led Clinton with 13 points, while Laurens was paced by Josh Green (10 points).
In other action Friday, Laurens Academy got 16 points from Ruthie Moore as the Crusaders girls’ basketball team defeated Greenwood Christian, 47-23. LA’s boys suffered a 53-50 loss in the second half of the doubleheader. Noah Moore scored 27 points to lead LA’s cause.
