LAURENS – Laurens District 55’s sporting events for the remainder of the week, which were announced as having been canceled earlier Tuesday, were back in a holding pattern and may be back on as originally planned.

Laurens Athletic Director Mark Freeze said, specifically, the varsity football game at Wade Hampton may still be played. Other events – including tennis, volleyball, golf, and both JV and ninth-grade football – were originally called off for the week. An e-mail sent to those at Laurens High said Greenville County schools were to be used as evacuation centers for those who were leaving the coast ahead of the storm. All Greenville County school buses are to be sent to the coast Wednesday to help with evacuation efforts.

But, as of now, the plan to call off the remainder of the sports schedule is very much in limbo.

“We’re waiting on further weather developments to see what it holds,” Freeze said late Tuesday.

Please stay with The Laurens County Advertiser for further updates throughout the day Wednesday.
