Laurens defense turns tables in region opener

SIMPSONVILLE – Troy Dendy may have scored the winning points, but the Laurens Raiders’ defense won the game Friday night.
The Raiders forced seven turnovers, including a pick-6 in the first half, and got a 3-yard touchdown run from Troy Dendy late in the fourth quarter as they knocked off the Hillcrest Rams, 21-14, in the region opener for both teams.
Laurens moved to 2-4 overall with the victory. It’s next game is next Friday at Wade Hampton.
Clinton led 14-10 at the half of its region opener at Chapman before the Panthers scored four touchdowns in the second half to pick up a 38-17 victory, sending the Red Devils to 2-4 overall, 0-1 in its region.
Clinton hosts Mid-Carolina next Friday.
